Pray and Praise Always

When do you feel like you need God the most? For the majority of us it is when we have the most difficult circumstances come up in our lives. We draw closer to God when tragedy strikes and we have nowhere left to turn to, no other options. But what about the times when things are going right? It is sad that those are the times when we often neglect Jesus the most.

The truth of the matter is that we need Jesus just as much today as we do tomorrow. If we were to actually live in that reality, our lives would look a lot different. If we could draw near to God through the blessings and the pain we would end up more blessed! When we draw away from Him is where we run into issues, no matter what circumstances may look like at the moment. We are our own problem when we behave this way.

Do not use Jesus as a means to get you through the hard times you are facing. Praise Him in the storm and out of it; pray in the storm and out of it. We serve a God that is the same yesterday, today, and forever. That means that no matter what changes in our lives-- our circumstance, emotions, etc., His character will always be constant. Honor His unfailing love and unchanging character today by unceasingly praising and praying in every season.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. (ESV)

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. (ESV)

1 Timothy 6:6 Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment (ESV)

How Firm a Foundation

Matthew 7:24-27 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Luke 6:46-49 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against th...

Dancing Through the Fire

For a couple weeks now the Lord has been pressing this message on my heart. He revealed a flaw in my thinking I hadn't noticed. You see, when hard times come it's in my nature to duck and cover. I go into "survival mode" and I get tunnel vision. I only focus on getting through what's in front of me alive. But in doing so, not only do I miss a lot of opportunities, but I give in to the voice of fear in my life.     I know I don't speak only for myself when I say that God wants to us in our "every day lives." Not only at church or on a special mission trip, but in the trenches of the grocery store, the gym, work, etc. It is His will that every soul is saved and He wants us to go out into the world and win those hearts for Him. But when I put myself in survival mode, I block out all the opportunities God lays before me. When I numb myself with the routine of each passing day, week, and month, I miss out on sharing the one thing of eternal importa...

Pergamum

Revelation 2:13-16  “I know that you live in the city where Satan has his throne, yet you have remained loyal to me. You refused to deny me even when Antipas, my faithful witness, was martyred among you there in Satan’s city. “But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin. In a similar way, you have some Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching. Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth." (NLT)     To the church in Pergamum, Jesus commends them for their faithfulness. Interesting that what He told the church in Smyrna they were doing wrong was just what those in Pergamum were doing right! They lived in an area that made it particularly difficult to stay devoted to Christ because of all the persecution, yet...
