Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.
This is one of those verses we hear over and over again. When we hear verses so often it is easy to let them lose their meaning. After reading this verse for the umpteenth time this week, it took on new meaning to me. The verse doesn't say our strength will be renewed on its own, it says that they who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.
That made me think. If I am feeling weary and worn down, am I waiting on the Lord? It is easy to get so distracted with life and what we need that we forget what we know and start demanding of the Lord. In the midst of chaos it is hard to simply wait on Jesus-- especially when He doesn't work according to our timeline. Yet, we are told that if we wait on Him and trust in His infinite wisdom, that is when our strength is renewed.
If you are feeling weary and broken down today, ask yourself the same question: Am I waiting on Jesus? Step outside the chaos and trust that He will make good on His promises and take care of you like He says He will. Wait and let your strength be renewed by the creator of the universe.
