We are called to live in the community of Christ. That is where we are able to draw strength from one another and flourish in our faith. However, we should also be able to stand on our own with Jesus. I believe He wants us to be more dependent on His strength than the strength of those around us.
There are times when He allows us to be separated from our community for a short time to strengthen our personal relationship with Him. Community is undoubtedly important, but do not let it become a crutch for your own personal relationship with Jesus. You have everything you need available to you through Him directly. We do not need to rely completely on the Jesus we find in others.
Remember today to take time to devote to your personal relationship with Jesus. Of course, we should never stop meeting together with our fellow believers, but we have to remember that don't need them to constantly surround us for us to make a difference in the world. Inside of you is the power that raised Jesus from the dead. Inside you, He lives. Allow Him to work through you personally.
Hebrews 10:25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (ESV)
Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. (NIV)
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (NIV)
John 14:15-20“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you." (ESV)
