As we celebrate our independence and freedom as a country that many men died to obtain and defend, I remember the freedom we have as Christians. I am so thankful for the freedom I have living in the United States of America, but I am much more thankful for the freedom I have in Him. He provided a freedom that no one man could accomplish besides the Son of God.
What does freedom in Christ look like? God allowed us to all have our own free will. Jesus never forced anyone to follow Him or recognize Him as God. He always lets us make our own decisions even knowing that some decisions will cause us to bring down negative consequences on ourselves. He does this so that we, in absolute genuine love, have the freedom to choose Him as He chose us long before we were born.
This freedom is an amazing gift. However, we are warned again and again in the Bible on how to use our freedom. It tells us that we will get no satisfaction or prosperity by using our freedom to indulge our flesh. Instead, we should be using it to bring glory to God and do what He asks us. That is the only thing that will make us truly feel free and able to live blessed and joyful lives.
Today, as you celebrate the freedom you have in this country, remember the freedom that you have in Christ no matter what country you live in. Remember the man that died for everything we would ever need, and then rose again. Celebrate your freedom in Jesus Christ!

Romans 8:1-4 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (ESV)
Romans 6:18 And, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. (ESV)
