I want to live a life of faith that is genuine and makes a big impact on people. I don't want Jesus to be just a small part of my life, I want Him to define it. I want people to see the Jesus in me by the way I live my life. As my home church ventures into planting another church in the very near future, these are the things that cross my mind. How can I minister to people and show them Jesus without standing on a street corner and screaming at them?
An example of this in the Bible that has really been speaking to me is the story of how Peter and John handled ministry. They were on their way to the temple to for their own time of worship, but in the midst of this they still walked out their faith. More specifically, they walked in the power of the Holy Spirit. They were always ready for what Jesus had for them. I love that when a man asks for alms they cease the God-appointed opportunity to change His life.
Peter and John very simply healed this man of a life long affliction in one moment, simply by calling on the power of the name of Christ and using His authority to heal like we are told to. It is so simple to minister to people if we let it be. We over complicate things by looking into an exact science of how to evangelize and minister, etc. I believe the answer is simply in living our life the way we were instructed to. I want to live life like Peter and John where miracles are simply a way of life. Join me.
Acts 3:1-10 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And leaping up he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God, and recognized him as the one who sat at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, asking for alms. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. (ESV)
