There are many people in our faith who claim to follow Jesus but they have zero passion for Him. They don't love Him or His people, they just show up for church and say they are Christians. Unfortunately, many people think this is what Christianity is about. But be assured, it isn't. Jesus was upset with the church in Laodicea for this same thing. He chastised them for being lukewarm.
Our lives should be defined for our love and need for Jesus. When we put ourselves in a position where we think we know it all already, like Laodicea did, we take Jesus out of the equation. We need to live in a state where we always recognize our great need for Him. In our flesh and sin, we are worthless. But with Jesus we have everything we need.
Jesus pointed out to Laodicea that they were miserable, poor, blind, and naked without Him. It is the same for us. But if we search for Him, He will be found. He will make us rich and clothe us in white garments. Don't be like the church in Laodicea. Recognize how great of a need you have for Jesus. Seek Him out and accept what He has already offered to you.
Revelation 3:15-21 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked. So I advise you to buy gold from me—gold that has been purified by fire. Then you will be rich. Also buy white garments from me so you will not be shamed by your nakedness, and ointment for your eyes so you will be able to see. I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne." (NLT)
