Number One

    The verse Psalm 37:4 is quoted often-- "He will give you your heart's desires." Unfortunately, I think it is a bit misunderstood. Our heart's desires referred to in this verse are the desires placed there by God, not by the flesh. We may desire what is sinful and not healthy for us, but the Lord replaces those desires with righteous ones when are pursuing a relationship with Him. The desires of our heart should be from Jesus and of course He will satisfy those when we are seeking Him. If you were thinking that you could use Jesus as a means to receive any sinful desires that could be in your heart, you are wrong. The point is this: when we are seeking Him, we are doing just what we were designed to do. That is why a life lived with Jesus is so altogether fulfilling. Establish a relationship with Jesus where He is number one in your life, then allow Him to transform your desires and ultimately fulfill them.

Psalm 37:3-4 Trust in the Lord and do what is good;dwell in the land and live securely. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires. (HCSB)

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV)

 Romans 13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. (NIV)

 Colossians 3:10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. (NIV)

 2 Corinthians 3:18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord--who is the Spirit--makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. (NLT)

Humble Pie

    One of the most valuable characteristics in our walk with Christ is humility. When we have the ability to humble ourselves before Jesus and accept His leading, we go far. But problems arise when we force our own way. Humility is a characteristic that allows us to accept correction and truth and grow stronger because of it. Pride keeps us tied down and unable to grow up in Christ.     We have our brothers and sisters around us to keep pointing us to Jesus. That means helping us through areas not aligned with Him and combating those areas with the truth. But if we get angry and reject those people, we miss out on growing up for sake of being "right" and lose the people Jesus put in our lives for His sake. It doesn't matter if we are right but only that we follow what Jesus calls right and good.      I am thankful to say that for the first time in my life I am surrounded by friends and a community who I know will always build me up and point me in the right direction. More importantly, I know that they will always be honest with me. Honesty is a rare trait these days and I think it to be (combined with love) the most important thing to have in any relationship.    The Bible instructs us to speak life and truth into one another. To be honest and point each other to Christ when we are failing to see straight. I cannot emphasize how much I have grown since having access to that kind of community.
