Selfless Discipleship

    When we become disciples of Jesus Christ it changes the make-up of our person. We become more like Christ and less like the world and it is a beautiful transformation. One characteristic stands out to me as an enormous indicator of the genuine transformation into Jesus' image: selflessness. When Jesus, the King of kings, came to earth He came not to force us into submission, but to save us from our sins. If that isn't selfless I don't know what is.

    So what does that mean for us? I believe that you can test how developed your relationship with Christ is based on how selfless or selfish you are. The flesh thinks about how to gratify its own desires, but the Spirit thinks about how to love and serve others and bring glory to Jesus Christ. Where are you at on your journey today? Is your selfishness preventing you from having an effective ministry for God?

2 Corinthians 3:18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord--who is the Spirit--makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. (NLT)

Matthew 20:28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (NIV)

Romans 13:14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh. (NIV)

Multiplication Without Division

    The church environment is made to be the body and the family of Christ. We are supposed to love each other and support each other through everything. Sadly, this is not the attitude of most churches in America today. Unfortunately, many people bring the world into the church instead of bringing the church into the world.      A lot of people use the church as a place where they can jockey for positions and get recognized for their talents. They use it as a place where they can judge and condemn others from the safety of their own elite clique. They look down condescendingly on those they see sinning, while sweeping their own sin under the rug.  They cause division. Humble Pie

    One of the most valuable characteristics in our walk with Christ is humility. When we have the ability to humble ourselves before Jesus and accept His leading, we go far. But problems arise when we force our own way. Humility is a characteristic that allows us to accept correction and truth and grow stronger because of it. Pride keeps us tied down and unable to grow up in Christ.     We have our brothers and sisters around us to keep pointing us to Jesus. That means helping us through areas not aligned with Him and combating those areas with the truth. But if we get angry and reject those people, we miss out on growing up for sake of being "right" and lose the people Jesus put in our lives for His sake. It doesn't matter if we are right but only that we follow what Jesus calls right and good.
