Tru$t Me

Today I am continuing to go over some of the basic areas in our life that we should concentrate on sacrificing to Jesus, as He sacrificed Himself for us.

Hebrews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. (ESV)

Resources

Today I will meddle in a sensitive place for most people-- their wallets. Money is always a touchy subject for people. In this world, money is our means to any end. It takes money to do just about anything in this world (even run God's Kingdom *cough cough*). Therefore, a common error of many believers is to see (consciously or unconsciously) money as their provider.

Most are extremely attached to their money because of their relationship to it. They put their trust in their money instead of their God to supply all their needs. It is a waste to do so, for money neither cares about you nor sticks around to provide for you; it is fleeting. Jesus knew the trouble money caused in the hearts of mankind and warned that wealth made it exceedingly difficult to enter heaven when one is rich before they meet Jesus. However, it is possible with God.

Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (NIV)

Proverbs 23:5 Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle. (NIV)

Matthew 19:23-24, 26 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (ESV)

Most are far more willing to sacrifice other things rather than their precious money! "I worked hard for that!" But it is what we are called to do. Not only are we supposed to tithe out of obedience, but we are to be givers beyond that. The more we give, the more it frees God's hand to bless us. When we are stingy with our money, God is slow to give us too much because of the condition of our heart. He wants our hearts to always be fully engaged in Him. If we cannot handle more money without falling away from Him, he often doesn't let us have it. But if we are are giving and faithful with little, he will bless us with much (Luke 16:10).

The only reason God blesses us with wealth is so that we will be free to faithfully fund His Kingdom here on earth. God always provides, and His model is typically to provide through people - people like us! We have Jesus inside of us and all we have He has given to us. Why should we be slow to listen when the Holy Spirit prompts us to give financially or otherwise?

Lastly, I would like to mention that besides our money, our other resources ought to be readily available presented as sacrifice to our Lord as He leads us. Our connections through work or school, our homes, our supplies, etc. Whatever we have is His and should be used for His purposes.

Give Him all you have today. Use His blessings to bless others and fulfill the purposes of His Kingdom here on earth! You will be richly blessed for it.

How Firm a Foundation

Matthew 7:24-27 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Luke 6:46-49 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against th...

Dancing Through the Fire

For a couple weeks now the Lord has been pressing this message on my heart. He revealed a flaw in my thinking I hadn't noticed. You see, when hard times come it's in my nature to duck and cover. I go into "survival mode" and I get tunnel vision. I only focus on getting through what's in front of me alive. But in doing so, not only do I miss a lot of opportunities, but I give in to the voice of fear in my life.     I know I don't speak only for myself when I say that God wants to us in our "every day lives." Not only at church or on a special mission trip, but in the trenches of the grocery store, the gym, work, etc. It is His will that every soul is saved and He wants us to go out into the world and win those hearts for Him. But when I put myself in survival mode, I block out all the opportunities God lays before me. When I numb myself with the routine of each passing day, week, and month, I miss out on sharing the one thing of eternal importa...

Pergamum

Revelation 2:13-16  “I know that you live in the city where Satan has his throne, yet you have remained loyal to me. You refused to deny me even when Antipas, my faithful witness, was martyred among you there in Satan’s city. “But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin. In a similar way, you have some Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching. Repent of your sin, or I will come to you suddenly and fight against them with the sword of my mouth." (NLT)     To the church in Pergamum, Jesus commends them for their faithfulness. Interesting that what He told the church in Smyrna they were doing wrong was just what those in Pergamum were doing right! They lived in an area that made it particularly difficult to stay devoted to Christ because of all the persecution, yet...
