No Pain No Gain

When you are experiencing any amount of pain, our first thought is never about how great it is. We avoid pain at all cost and dread experiencing it. So naturally when we are experiencing pain it feels as though God has completely abandoned us. We yell at Him for not answering our prayers and for letting us go through those valleys, but we need to change our outlook.

There are many reasons God allows us to go through painful circumstances. One of the biggest reasons is to test our faith. Do we really believe that He will do what He said He will do even when destruction seems imminent? He always comes through for us when we trust Him, but we have to recognize that His perfect timing is not the timing we would have in mind for ourselves-- He is beyond our tiny vantage point. Like the pain of strengthening your muscles in a work out, He allows us to experience discomfort to strengthen our faith.

Another reason that I want to mention is that He is saving your from further pain. Have you ever considered that? Jesus makes our paths straight. That doesn't mean we won't mess up, it means He will fix it when we do. Breaking up with someone who isn't right for you hurts, but what would hurt more is to get divorced later down the line. Jesus often allows things to fall apart so better things can fall together.

If you are experiencing pain-- good. Without it you cannot strengthen your faith. Or maybe the place you're in now is actually Jesus sparing you from worse heartache in the future. Trust Him to make good on the pain of this world like only He can.

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight. (ESV)

Proverbs 3:6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. (NIV)

Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (NLT)

1 2 3, Count on Me

I am thankful to say that for the first time in my life I am surrounded by friends and a community who I know will always build me up and point me in the right direction. More importantly, I know that they will always be honest with me. Honesty is a rare trait these days and I think it to be (combined with love) the most important thing to have in any relationship.    The Bible instructs us to speak life and truth into one another. To be honest and point each other to Christ when we are failing to see straight. I cannot emphasize how much I have grown since having access to that kind of community. Being in close friendships where I am able to be completely honest about my life, my struggles, my thoughts without fear of rejection or judgement is monumental alone. But take that a step further. I have been blessed to have friends that I can not only share my most intimate thoughts with, but they additionally are on their toes looking out for me and honest wh...

He Time

We have now gone over me time and we time, so today I want to address He time. It's a pretty simple concept-- that we have to spend time with Jesus to grow our faith. Just like anything else we want to get better at, you have to spend time doing it. In the case of Christianity, we are changed into the image of Jesus as we spend time with Him. 2 Corinthians 3:18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (ESV)     My message is as simple as this-- make sure that you are setting time aside for Christ. You will never change if you don't continually immerse yourself into His presence. We need to be spending time in His word so we know His promises and guidelines for our life, in prayer to speak to Him for individual direction in our circumstances, and worshipping Him for His goodness.     Do not le...

Multiplication Without Division

The church environment is made to be the body and the family of Christ. We are supposed to love each other and support each other through everything. Sadly, this is not the attitude of most churches in America today. Unfortunately, many people bring the world into the church instead of bringing the church into the world.      A lot of people use the church as a place where they can jockey for positions and get recognized for their talents. They use it as a place where they can judge and condemn others from the safety of their own elite clique. They look down condescendingly on those they see sinning, while sweeping their own sin under the rug.  They cause division. This attitude comes straight out of the world without Christ.  Matthew 7:5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. (NIV)     A church is a place where we exalt Jesus and ...
