The Backup Plan

I write often about the radical lifestyle of following Jesus. It isn't something to be taken lightly, but a responsibility and a privilege. So on that note, I want to ask you a question-- do you trust fully in God's plan for your life? Not your plan, but His. Because if you do then you should have no other plans set in place in case His doesn't work out-- no backups.

Like I mentioned the other day, when we feel like we are losing control of our lives and there are too many unknowns, we tend to take the reigns away from God. The same is to be said for when we plan for God's plan not to work. We make conditions on our perfect and Holy God. "Ok Jesus, if you don't do this thing you said you would by this date, I will have to find another way." Maybe you're out of a job and relying on the promise that God will provide everything you need. In your mind, you may feel like time is running out and all you can see are your circumstances-- bank statements, bills, budgets, etc. That is a very tempting situation to resort to a backup plan and to take matters into your own hands. That's a dangerous place to be.

Trust in God's plan and His perfect timing. Trust in Him so completely that you leave no backups, no other moves to be made. Let Him truly go before you and prepare the way. Let Him fulfill the promises that He gave us in His word. That's when you are free and able to walk by faith. Go there with God-- I dare you.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (ESV)

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. (ESV)

Seeing by Faith

When we are trying to live by faith, the things that inhibit us are the things that are right under our noses. We are trained to live based on the things around us. We don't believe anything if we don't see proof of it. The things around us are more our reality than what we say we believe in. But the Bible tells us that we are to walk by faith and not by sight. We are to live based on what we know is truth, not by what we see.     The things we see around us distract us from the reality we should be living in. What is unseen is eternal and more important than the things of this world. We need to fix our eyes on what is lasting and know the difference. We need to be filling ourselves with the word and not the world. When we are distracted by the world, we forget the truth. We become discouraged and doubt our faith. We need to draw strength from one another so that we may run the race with endurance.     What is determining your reality today? Is i...

How Firm a Foundation

Matthew 7:24-27 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Luke 6:46-49 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against th...

The Path to Life

Through this most recent season in life, God has been teaching me what it truly means to follow His plans for my life. Over the last year or so,  I have had to make some of the most ''adult" decisions in my life so far. Through that process, I have had to rely heavily on faith and the leading of the Holy Spirit to discern which is the right way to go. It has been a challenge for me, a planner to the core, to put my trust fully in God's plans and leading even when I am unable to see what's ahead and I am glad to say I have come out having learned a few things.      The main takeaway I would like to share is this: the right way is not the easiest way . That probably sounds very obvious if you have spent any time in church, but I never thought about that principle carrying over into walking out God's plans for my life. You see, there have been decisions that I have made over the last year that I was certain were what God was leading me to do. An...
